About Possum Twins

Possum Twins is an independent natural-history site built around a single, unglamorous animal that most people misunderstand: the Virginia opossum. Backyard wildlife writing tends to swing between two extremes — cutesy anthropomorphism or dry academic language that never reaches the person actually watching a possum cross their patio at 2 a.m. We aim for the middle ground: accurate, sourced, and readable.

Every article here is written to answer a real question someone typed into a search bar after finding an opossum under their porch, in their trash cans, or frozen in their headlights. We cover opossum biology — diet, senses, reproduction, immune system, lifespan — alongside broader backyard ecology topics like bats, skunks, raccoons, amphibians, and food webs. We also cover the practical side of sharing a yard with wild neighbors: habitat structures, wildlife-friendly fencing, water features, and what to do in the first hour after finding injured wildlife.

We do not sell pest-control services, wildlife removal, or trapping products, and we have no relationship with any pest-control company. When the evidence says opossums are mostly beneficial — and it usually does — we say so. When they genuinely cause a problem, we say that too.
